Job Description

The Camp S.W.A.G. Program Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for youth in a small group setting.  They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group.  The incumbent will be leader and mentor to program participants that focus on Camp S.W.A.G.’s core values of honesty, respect and caring.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing a weekly schedules for your CSWAG group
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week  Activities may include leadership activities, crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, canoeing, Family Night, etc.  This includes time transportation times
  • Identify and respond to CSWAG Participant behavior issues
  • Ensure that facility is clean and safe
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to CSWAG Leadership
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the CSWAG Programs.  This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your CSWAG group’s safety and their whereabouts at all times
  • Assist in guiding upon and coming CSWAG Program Ambassador Volunteers to have a deeper understanding of leadership, mentoring and counseling
  • Attend monthly in-service trainings

Qualifications: 

  • Upon hire, completion of Red Cross CPR & First Aid Training Certifications
  • Continuing Education of Programs
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Requires a minimum High School Diploma and at least some college.
  • Prior experience working with middle and high school students
  • The individual must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, combined with strong interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work well with people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds is crucial to this position. Also required is a valid driver’s license and a solid driving history.

Job Type: Part-time
