Resident Leadership camp is only open to students with Camp S.W.A.G. Membership.
Camp S.W.A.G. is proud to offer One Week and Two Week Resident Leadership Camp for students 12-18 years of age. We are committed to empowering, inspiring and educating teens by creating a positive environment where teens can discover and take full advantage of their unique leadership abilities and maximize their potential to make a positive difference in the world. Teens will leave this leadership camp with a new-found sense of respect not only for each other, but also for one’s self and one’s environment. Leadership Certificates will be issued to all campers at the end of the camp session.
Camp Activities May Include the Following:
Kayaking, Canoeing, Peace Canoeing, White Water Rafting, Challenge/Rope Courses, Horseback Riding, Archery, Team Sports, Hiking, Backpacking, Zip Line, Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Nature Exploration, Fire Rings & Camp Fires
Educational Activities May Include the Following:
Leadership Development, Team Building, Speakers, Entrepreneurial Workshops, S.T.E.M. Based Activities, Financial Workshops, Nature Exploration, Community Service, Music, Out-of-State Field Trips, In-State Field Trips

*Camp Cost and Fees
Camp tuition is $975 plus a $90 one-time non-transferable/non-refundable administrative fee totaling $1065 for the 2016 Leadership Camp. Camp tuition includes all field trip cost, required t-shirt (only 1 t-shirt is provided, you will have to pay $30.00 for all lost, stolen or additional t-shirts), food (excluding breakfast on the days that camp begins at 8:30 am. On those days we only provide snacks later in the morning), snacks and drinks. If you are a CSWAG Member, you receive a 10% Camp S.W.A.G. Membership.
All youth must be 12 years of age at the start of your selected camp date and cannot be older than 18 years of age. If your youth is 18 years of age, he/she must be a current high school student. FOR SECURITY REASONS, ALL CAMPERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR CAMP S.W.A.G. T-SHIRTS DURING CAMP FIELD TRIPS.
Visit Financial Assistance is you need to apply for a Financial Need Based Scholarship or give us a call at (919) 443-5866. Financial aid is on a first-come bases.
- Pay in full of $975, which includes the $90 one-time non-transferable/non-refundable administrative fee.
- If applicable, pre-register for 2017 Spring Break Leadership camp by paying a $300 deposit which includes a $90 one-time non-transferable/non-refundable administrative fee. The remaining camp balance of $765 will be split into four equal payments of $191.25 automatic payment drafts over the next four months. All balances are due by March 31, 2017.
All payments must be received in full by March 31, 2017. All completed Camp Form Packets must be received 7 days prior to your selected camp date. Payments can be made online and payment in full is due by March 31, 2017. Once all payments have been received, you will receive an email, confirming your payment transaction. Please keep a copy of these emails for your personal records and payment information.
Upon receipt and processing of your online pre-registration fee or registration fee with the required $90 non-transferrable/non-refundable administrative fee, a Registration Confirmation will be sent via email to confirm your pre-registration or registration for Summer Leadership Camp, which acknowledges payment and includes all the information need to prepare for residential camp. You will also receive an automated email immediately when you register online. Please keep all emails for your personal records and for future payment information.
Drop-off & Pick-up Times
Drop-off – Sunday’s from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (You will be noticed via your registration packet, if these times change.)
Pick-up – Saturday’s from 9:00 am – 11:00 am (You will be noticed via your registration packet, if these times change.)
If the time changes, you will be notified.
Camper Memory CD/DVD’s
Photos will be taken of cabin groups and campers during field trips and camp activities during the camp session. These photos will be made available on CD/DVD for $25. The CD/DVD’s can be ordered on Sunday’s during check-in or on Saturday during check-out. All CD/DVD’s will be mailed by September 30th 2016. If you do not receive your CD/DVD’s by this date, please contact us.
Camp S.W.A.G. strives to meet every camper’s requests. However we reserve the right to refuse requests. Campers must be within one year of each other’s age to be placed in the same cabin, if mutually requested. To ensure that campers will also have the opportunity to meet new friends, we allow only one “Cabin Roommate Request” per camper. To help ensure that all campers receive the best experience in the cabin group, we do our best to limit large groups of campers who already know each other from being placed together. Therefore, both campers must have the other camper listed as their “Cabin Roommate Request” on their registration form to ensure the pairing is made. Please also make sure the campers are coming the same week. Although we try to honor all mutually requests, we reserve the right to refuse cabin roommate requests. We realize how valuable friendship is and we will make every effort to honor your request.
We cannot honor requests in cases where more than two campers have linked their names together. In cases where several campers have linked their names together each choosing a different cabin roommate, we will place campers as it feels is in the best interest of all concerned.
You can help us out by coordinating your cabin roommate request with the other family. If you have a special situation which you feel should be considered differently, please call at least one month in advance of camp. Please remember that even if two persons are not in the same cabin, there are many opportunities to spend time together in camp. If you are requesting that your child not be placed with a certain child it is your responsibility to inform the other family prior to arrival at camp.
Wait Lists Notification
If your participant/camper clears the wait list, you will be notified by telephone or email. You will have 24 hours to accept and remit payment for the requested program. Your acceptance must be confirmed in writing, and if notification is not received within 24 hours, you will forfeit your participant’s/camper’s placement.
If a cancellation is necessary, payments, less a $90 administrative fee, are refundable if written notice is received sixty (60) days prior to the first day of Camp, no refund will be given for cancellations after this time. No refunds will be issued less than sixty (60) days of prior to the first day of Camp. Any cancellation made after sixty (60) days prior to the first day of Camp will be provided a tuition credit, minus the $90 administrative fee, towards the following summer tuition for your camper. That credit is only available for one year, and can be transferred to a sibling, but not to another family or camper. There are no refunds for late arrival, early departure or disciplinary dismissal from camp.
If for some reason camp has to be canceled or is full and your child is unable to attend, you will be provided a full refund minus the $90 administrative fee. Confirmation of the receipt of cancellation notice will be sent to you by return mail or email. If you do not receive a confirmation of cancellation, camp has not received your cancellation notice and no refund will be given. - 100% refund/credit/transfer if Camp S.W.A.G. cancels program.
- Refund/credit/transfer received less than sixty (60) days from the first day of Camp will not be granted.
- A credit my be used by another family member on the same registration account.
- Non-attendance/Non-participation in a program or activity does not entitle a patron to a refund.
- Refunds for medical reasons requested prior to the start date of a program/rental/team placement will be granted at 100% and are subject to verification.
- Outdoor facility usage canceled due to inclement weather may be rescheduled pending space availability.
***Go Ape Policies
Please visit Go Ape Treetop Adventure and Go Ape Treetop Adventure Waivers. You will be required to sign a Camp S.W.A.G. contract stating that you have read the Go Ape Policies/Information and discussed them with your son/daughter and signed the applicable Go Ape waivers.
Supervision: One participating adult (18+) is required to supervise up to two 10-15 year olds. 16-17 year olds do not require a supervising adult, but do require a waiver signed by their legal guardian or an adult (18+) who has obtained permission from the 16-17 year olds legal guardian.
For 16-17 year olds, we recommend printing the waiver at home and bringing a signed copy to Go Ape. We recommend you give the signed forms to Camp S.W.A.G. so we can present them to Go Ape, as we are less likely to lose or misplace the forms.
“What happens in bad weather?
Go Ape is an excellent all weather activity! Rain makes the course muddier than usual – which all adds to the fun! Don’t be scared of going ape when it’s hot either. The course is shaded by the forest canopy and is several degrees cooler and drier than you’d expect. Plus, there are water stations throughout the course to keep you hydrated!
The course remains open in all weather conditions, except when it is icy, thundering, or during lightning. See cancellation policy below for more details regarding weather cancellations.
Hot Weather: Go Ape is a highly physical activity. Prepare yourself by eating well beforehand and make sure you’re hydrated. Water is provided on the course, so drink up!”1
Please make sure your camper eats a good healthy breakfast, as we will only be providing snacks in the morning.
Please visit Smithsonian Security and Policies. You will be required to sign a Camp S.W.A.G. contract stating that you have read the Smithsonian Security and Policies information and discussed it with your son/daughter.
Food Policy for Groups:
Food and drink other than bottled water are not permitted inside the museums. Groups are encouraged to eat on their buses or to use the picnic areas at the Mall.
All bags/backpacks will be checked by Security. Please try to limit the number of bags brought into the museum to help expedite your entry.
